We had a brilliant opportunity to make a low cost interior project. We choose to use ply as material & finish for the house. We had a lot of fun in experimenting with ply as an aesthetic material.
Plywood Furniture House
The Clients purchased a second home in Kharghar – Navi Mumbai, as a weekend getaway from their house in the City. They needed to quickly furnish it with bare essentials and high value designs. The house in a 3.5 BHK space, the budget for the work was really tight. We had to devise some very critical ideas to achieve our target.
We took up the challenge of using a plywood as a structural and an aesthetic material. We thought of achieving this by using it in various creative Ideas, Forms, syntax and Colour. This eliminated the use of Veneers and Laminates, its Labour and adhesives. We choose better quality of ply to further reduce labour and cost of binding the ply edges, which is a regular practice. To balance the monotony of tones of plywood, we added vibrant colours on the walls.
The ply furniture was smartly finished in Plain, Sealer, Melamine and Lamination depending upon degree of exposure to moisture.
The project was a great experience in creative use of an environmentally friendly and cheap material and it turned out very delightful too.
