A Corporate wished to create an efficient & state of the art infrastructure for their office. The budget was highly restrictive for conventional style Interiors. Big Loo – Competition

In Cities people are constantly on the move and travel far & longer from their comfort spaces. The need to refresh and rejuvenate for having a productive and enjoyable day out is a dream for many. India predominantly has a hot climate with humidity ranging from city to city. The need to relieve and refresh is a very basic physical need in such climates. The current situations in our cities, mainly Mumbai is pathetic from point of view of City experience. As a country, we don’t celebrate the outdoors too much and we have now switched to the Mall culture in hope for solace from the hustle bustle of the City. Our Public Toilets lack the dignity of a function that is so intrinsic to our lives. It is essential that we revisit our Public Toilets and create a different image and identity around them. Dignified Suburban Train Journey

I stopped driving my car 4 years ago, thanks to net-based car hire services. I feel more independent and stress free travelling in Mumbai using public transport. Being an independent professional I have the choice to travel at the non-peak hours and I choose from various modes including Autorickshaws, BEST/NMMT Buses, Rental Cars, Trains (Harbour/Central/Western), Metro and quite often walking, which i find the smartest way to cut across modes, saving time and money. Travelling in Mumbai is fun and exciting. For me the thrill is in travelling faster and cheaper than if I travelled all the way by car. Not that I don’t take the car all the way… I do if it is the fastest and convenient route. Continue reading “Dignified Suburban Train Journey”

Alternate Building Materials & Techniques

Standardisation is a virtue of large scale manufacturing. Advances in technology and changes in Government policy catalyses invention and delivery of new materials and products. Entrepreneurs who run these businesses invest hugely and heavily advertise their products in the media and other means. Their competitors quickly follow and the market is flooded with similar goods. The users have no other option but to consider these for their projects. This in brief is one simple way how the market works. Continue reading “Alternate Building Materials & Techniques”

Appreciation of Architecture

We in India, as a place are a unique set of parameters. What differentiates/shapes us is our climate, geography, history & culture, influence & exposure, economy and technology. All these help create perceptions that design our attitudes and enterprise. Arguably we are a formidable civilisation, but currently are going through an economic and identity crisis, largely due to our ‘new’ 70 year young governance paradigm. Our absolute democracy and our exploding population has yet not helped us regain our 7000 year old past glory. We have been subject to various challenges and paradigms in human development and technology and we have gracefully adopted and surprised ourselves by our capacities to excel. We are still far from domination, but I am sure that is just one tick in the box. Continue reading “Appreciation of Architecture”
